Misery

Original Concept Sketch
Process Breakdown
Final Render

When people fall into the Sea of Despair and sink to the bottom, Misery steals their names– heavy burdens– to make them begin floating up. With the absence of names, people are no longer people, and they are transformed into nameless, faceless wanderers.
She represents gender dysphoria, separating you from what you thought was yourself. She makes you look at yourself and see an unfamiliar face, but she also makes you realize you need a new one.
Hell

Original Concept Sketch
Process Breakdown
Final Render

The sleazy, tired man of the House of Glass. He generally runs the place and makes sure nobody is throwing stones. While he is the concept of Hell itself, he’s really not that bad of a guy. He’s also fiercely protective of his wives, Fury and Scorn.
Hell represents the inherent disparity of experiences between cisgender people and their trans and queer partners. More specifically, cisgender men with trans partners.
Fury and Scorn

Original Concept Sketch
Process Breakdown
Final Render

The loving and dedicated wives of Hell and groundsworkers for the House of Glass. While neither of them talk very much and are quite elusive, they are masters at getting guests of the House to realize their concepts.
Fury and Scorn represent the intersectionality of trans identities and queer romantic and sexual identities. They, along with Hell, also represent and exemplify a healthy polyamorous relationship involving cis and trans identities.
Pity

Original Concept Sketch
Process Breakdown
Final Render

Many believe them to be the leader of the Welcoming Committee due to them generally being the one to drag newcomers of the Drawing Board into the House of Glass. Really, they just prefer to be alone and enjoy long walks on the Shores of Despair.
Pity represents the external pressure from the world to ‘be who you are’ but only within specific parameters. But they are not a bad guy and ultimately just want you to be smart and stay safe. However, in the end, they inadvertently stop you from doing it at all.
Sorry

Original Concept Sketch
Process Breakdown
Final Render

An annoying, fickle creature that always manages to find itself in conversations that didn’t involve it at all. It constantly butts in and attempts to make itself known despite how small it is.
Sorry represents the awful self-image and lack of self-confidence that many trans people hold. It is annoying to everyone, including itself.

Environment Concepts:
Main Act Locations
The Sea of Despair

The player’s starting point. An ever-expanding ocean of tears cried by Misery and those whose names she’s claimed.
An allegory for the depression and other mental illnesses trans people are frequently afflicted with, especially pre-transition or pre-realization.
The House of Glass

Act 1’s main setting. A mysterious house inhabited by The Welcoming Committee that sits on the shore of the Sea of Despair. It moves every night when out of sight and out of mind.
An allegory for the outside-looking-in perspective many have towards the lives of trans people, and how there seems to be a nigh-invisible barrier between our lives and theirs.
The Sands of Time

Act 2’s main setting. An unknowably large expanse of sand and dunes that people often find themselves crossing for infinite periods of time in search of their names and The Continuum.
An allegory for the oft-Mosean journey trans people often have to take to both find themselves and understand where they want to be in life. More specifically, the journey some must take to find a partner to share their typically-challenging life with.
The Continuum

Act 3’s main setting and one of two ending locations. A massive house owned by Time in which he constantly throws parties. Many rooms are sealed off, reserved only for when the love of his life– Space– finds their name.
An allegory for how a relationship can feel confining for the parties involved if one realizes they’re trans. It can also be confining to be with someone that might no longer align with your sexuality/attraction preferences.
Outer Space

The second of the two ending locations. A strange land nobody seems to come back from– not much is known about it other than it is incomprehensible.
Represents the ‘wandering’ feeling some trans people experience during their journey– the feeling of when you don’t know where else to go or what else to do, but that they are not yet done.

This is the best school of arcane study this side of the magical multiverse. One of you holds the keys to the hands of fate, and the rest of you are at their mercy. For those of you who are not God, you are faculty at this esteemed institution and are crippled with unbearable loneliness. Not to worry! There is a fantastic selection of supernatural suitors in this personnel that are just as eager to come aboard the love train!Your goal in this game is to be the first to successfully enter a relationship with a staff member of your choosing– marked by a winning date with your beloved– through various means determined by God (aka, the Game Master).

CARD-AND-DICE-BASED PLAY: With just 1 six-sided-die and a pack of normal playing cards, this game can be easily played without custom materials!
BEGINNER FRIENDLY: Designed with those who may not know how to roleplay in mind, prefab Prompts and Items make it easy for anyone to get into the spirit of their character-- whether that be one of our beloved staff or God themself!
SCALABILITY AND REPLAYABILITY: Optional hidden character abilities and interaction modifiers allow for the game to be scaled in difficulty to give everyone at the table a chance to win-- and make the game more interesting the next time you play it!

As a queer neurodivergent game developer, a lot of what I want to see in the gaming world simply doesn't exist. I've been looking for a truly entry-level tabletop roleplaying game for forever, and I've never managed to find one that really laid everything out for the most inexperienced of players. So, I decided to throw my hat in the ring and make it myself.Galdrocht Academy is everything I'd ever want in a beginner-friendly TTRPG experience: scalable difficulty, plenty of prefab materials for people to build off of, and roleplay opportunities presented so openly that they can be interpreted in any way by anyone-- regardless of whether or not they're used to it.The characters themselves-- well, it's pretty obvious to see they were written by an openly queer monster enjoyer. But that's another thing I feel that there isn't enough of in the boxed TTRPG spheres. I don't think I could go to any large store and buy a tabletop game that has an option to be in a poly relationship with seven princes of Hell, for example.Ultimately, this game is for me and for people like me-- people who love monsters to a nigh-unhealthy extent who may not have had the smoothest or kindest awakening into tabletop roleplaying.Hopefully I didn't miss the mark too badly. <3
